Cowboy Single Action Shooting

The days of the old west era are alive and well with Cowboy Single Action Shooting!

This old West style shooting sport is a lifestyle!  This fantasy shooting sport requires members to dress in 1800’s style Old West costumes.

Starting in California in 1982, this shooting sport debuted as the World Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting.  Cowboy shooting has 1000’s of clubs around the globe who compete in this event and style!  Shooting competitors are reminiscent of scenes in the old Western movies.  This game requires the use of a pair of six-guns, a lever-action rifle (in pistol calibre), and an old-time shotgun!

Typically the guns of the ‘Old West’.   Two revolvers, a shotgun, and a rifle chambered in a centre fire revolver calibre.  All Cowboy Action handguns must be “single-action”, meaning that the hammer must be manually cocked before each shot can be fired.

Our aim is to preserve, promote and respect the skills, traditions and the pioneering spirit and endeavour to dress the part, use the appropriate competition tools and respect the traditions of the Old West.

Join the ever growing number of folk across the globe that are part of a worldwide fraternity in pursuit of competitive achievement, learning and maintaining skills lost with the advent of modern technology. And above all the camaraderie and social interaction with likeminded folk having an interest in the Old West and pioneering days.

It is a timed sport in which shooters compete for prestige on a course of different shooting stages. Each scenario, or stage, as they are called, features an array of situations, many based on famous incidents or movies scenes, in which the shooters must test their mettle against steel targets.
