Prohibited person - what is it?

Definition of a prohibited person

DEFINITION OF “PROHIBITED PERSON” Under the Firearms Act 1996 (Victoria), you are a prohibited person if: •

You are serving a term of imprisonment;

You have completed a term of imprisonment of 5 years or more within the last 15 years;

You have completed a term of imprisonment of less than 5 years within the last 5 years;

You are subject to an intervention order or a corresponding order made in another State; • You are subject to a community based order;

You are subject to a supervision order;

You were subject to an intervention order, community based order, or supervision order within the last 5 years; or

You have been convicted of a firearms offence or an indictable offence within the last 12 months; unless you are deemed not to be a prohibited person by virtue of a court order.

If you are a prohibited person you must not handle firearms or apply for membership of a pistol club.
